BUILD YOUR OWN BRAND OF MAGIC

There are a lot of magic slingers out there in fictionland. Some follow the old rules, some have new takes on those old rules. And some authors totally reinvent what magic is and how it is used.

But, hey, why not take a pinch from each of those camps and whip up your own brand of magic? People it with wizards, witches, sorcerers, alchemists, mages, or supply a new magic user category to the hierarchy. Keep it pure or stir in legendary characters. Create some new monsters (like dementors).

In other words, make some magic of your own for the world of your magic wielders. The real idea here is to recreate magic in some way. Decide what it can and can’t do, how it is used with this modification, and what price it extracts from the user, if any.

We’ll do it all within 4-weeks. How? By using magic, of course!

Beth Daniels has spent the going-on-27-years of her career as a published novelist collecting pseudonyms, so it should be no surprise that when she decided to jump ship from the world of contemporary and historical romance for the enticing opportunities to stretch her imagination in new ways in fantasy, she switched from being Beth Henderson, Lisa Dane, and Beth Cruise, to being J.B. Dane (for fantasy/mystery) and Nied Darnell (for Steam and Diesel punk). Currently she has two urban fantasy series in progress (just not published yet) and a Steampunk Weird West trilogy chugging down the tracks toward completion. Under her real name, she is the author of GEARED UP WRITING STEAMPUNK, so far the only book about writing Steampunk on the market. In 2017 she marks seven years as an online instructor in the RWA online universe, though she did take a year off to finish the first book in her Raven Tales series.
